The Dodge Ram D and W 250/350 trucks varied year to year with chassis specifications. There were subtle changes that make swapping parts year to year trickier depending on the part.
The first year of the Cummins option came with a learning curve for Dodge and Cummins. With the original plan to build only 1000 trucks in 1989, many items were not planned to be high volume. As such, many gas truck parts were also used on diesels. As the first HD diesel pickup in Dodge’s fleet, they soon learned the abuse the trucks would take that required upgrades. Sales volume also dictated the business case to now look into more diesel specific platform parts.
