1979-1993 Borgeson Dual U Joint Steering Shaft – 000943

The 1st Gen factory steering shafts consisted of a rubber isolator joint to take up vibration, and a “rag joint” at the gearbox that consisted of essentially a tube with a T shaped pin in the end of it. To keep water and dirt out of the joint, Dodge wrapped a section of cloth around the joint.

Over time, the cloth would tear, leak, and allow moisture, and water into the joint. This would eventually rot the pin until one day you go to turn, and the pin shears off giving you no steering. Not bad at a slow speed, but at speed, this could be deadly.

Due to this joint that has some play, and the rubber isolator that flexes, this gives 1st Gens a bad reputation for sloppy steering.

By replacing the steering shaft with a Boregeson unit, you will not only have a safer truck, but it will also tighten up the steering on your truck.

This is a HIGHLY recommended upgrade for your truck. In fact, here at 1st Gen Industries, you will not find a single truck with its original steering shaft. Its just not worth the risk.

Available in a single joint shaft for rubber joint down, or full two joint replacement of your shaft.

If ordering the single joint just to replace the rag joint, don’t forget to order a new rubber isolator kit.
