When it comes to performance air filters, there is a lot of good, and bad information and products out there. Many times these aftermarket “performance” filters, actually cause worse filtration allowing more dirt particulate into your engine. This dirt ends up in your oil, and eventually into your bearings and cylinder walls. Worse, some of these filters kill performance (despite the company advertising otherwise) and the replacement elements can be pricey.
There is a performance filter however that has been used for 30 years on our trucks, that doesn’t compromise filtration particulate, and does increase power. Enter the AH1141. This filter is often secretly referred to as the BHAF – Big Honkin Air Filter. The unit is big, and no, it wont fit in your stock air filter box. But for those who want more flow however, this is your unit.
The advantage with a Fleetguard filter is the fact that Fleeguard, is owned by Cummins. It is their filter division. And we all know Cummins doesn’t compromise on product quality, or the quality of the air going into their engines. After all unlike an aftermarket filter company, Cummins uses their filters on new trucks and engines and if it is allowing dirt past the filter, they know its their warranty department that will be dealing with the engine repairs. An aftermarket company making filters doesn’t care as its now “your problem”. They care about the sale.
